How I Set Up My Weekly Planner – Hobonichi Weeks

The new year is here! And I want to give you all an update on the Hobonichi Weeks Planner. You can read more about how I initially set up my planner here. I want to be much more thorough with my monthly and weekly themes and tasks for this blog. This year, my goal is to worry less about things I am supposed to do and more about clarity on my work and business by trying this new way of setting up my weekly planner.

This year’s Hobonichi set-up is much more comprehensive. I wanted to plan to know things I have to do to the date of this year. Basically, I broke the year down into 4 quarters, 12 months, 52 years, and 365 days. Do I have to strictly stick to this plan? No. But it helps to know what I need to do every day.

Hobonichi Weeks: Quarter theme

→ An overview of what I want the year to look like

I use the Hobonichi Weeks to plan for my business. The quarter theme is all about which step of business I want to focus on and how much I should be making.

The goal is simple. I want to keep myself accountable for my business this year. Instead of having no clue, now I have a goal and a deadline to aim for.

From the quarter theme, I break big goals down into smaller and more biteable chunks. At the bottom of the monthly section, I wrote down 4 big goals for the month. The goals follow the quarter theme.

On each day of the month, I generally put ONE thing I want to accomplish for that day. They support the 4 significant goals of the month.

Weekly Planner: Daily Tasks

→ Narrow down to at MOST 3 things to do every day for my business and personal life

Business is not the only thing I have on my plate. I also have a family, which I love, and my real job. I already know which task I need to do from the monthly plan, but sometimes life comes into play. That is why I put at MOST 3 tasks to accomplish in a day.

I do not want to overwhelm with things to do or feel unsure of how life should be. I add or subtract tasks from the monthly checklist to fill in for my week. There are weeks that I am more productive than others. The system allows rest so I can quickly recover.

Life is not all about working. There are things that I want to work on to improve myself in general or make my life more enjoyable. For my habit checklist, I put working out and reading books first since they have the highest priorities.

You can also separate your checklist into different focuses. The items on this checklist do not need to be done on a specific day. You can track your hobby progress in this space.

Weekly Planner: Highlights

→ Anything huge happened throughout the week

Something I have learned from 2020 is every day brings new surprises >︿<. There are endless things to jot down what is happening around us throughout the week. It is entirely worth it to write down the week’s highlights for easier reference in the future.

There is no rule on what counts as highlights. They simply need to be a little more fun, more important, or anything I find impressive in the week. I can keep this as a semi-gratitude list for good deeds done to me by others.

Weekly Planner: Mood tracker

→ I rank my days to get an overall feel of the week

My Weekly Planner: Mood Tracker
My Weekly Planner: Mood Tracker

The section here is the most random and fun portion of my weekly planner. Why not rank each day, from one to five stars to judge. Maybe there is a pattern based on what I do? Perhaps I got lazier one week? Or maybe there was something extraordinary that happened to me?

There is no right or wrong answer here. The mood tracker is something to track since there is much happening, and I want to make sure that my mental health is doing OK by monitoring it in the long term.

So that’s all for my Hobonichi update, folks!
